Individual or small group courses

Individual course

Course structure:
The Individual course is for those who would prefer to have one-on-one lessons for professional, study, particular interest or time restraint reasons.
The start date and times of the lessons can be decided with the school.
We would recommend a minimum of one lesson per day up to a maximum of six lessons per day.
One individual lesson lasts 55 minutes.

About the course:
The individual course is modelled on the precise request of the student whilst keeping an optimum working environment in order to develop key language skills.
Grammar structures, necessary instruments for communication are studied as well as vocabulary and oral communication, written comprehension, dialogues, pronunciation and writing. Naturally, the most interesting aspects for the student will be the focus of the lessons.

For the grammar classes, we use exercise books which are written, edited and published by the ABC school. With over 30 years of experience of teaching students from all over the world, the books are updated frequently. Written texts and practical exercises are done both in class and at home, as homework. The teaching materials used in conversation classes are various and come in many forms. These include authentic readings (newspaper articles, blog articles, pieces of literature etc.), technical vocabulary or language, audiovisual materials, educational games and anything else which can serve as a stimulus to speak Italian or to address specific requests.

Lesson times:
The lesson times are flexible, however they normally take place in the morning.

At the end of the individual lessons it is possible to participate in the cultural activities organised by the school to get to know other aspects of Italian culture: visiting artistic Florentine places with a teacher who is also a licensed tour guide or enjoying nice evenings together.

Course duration
The Individual course lasts at least for one week.

Start dates
The Individual course can start any Monday or on another day of the week according to when the student arrives or when they would like to start, making sure that the dates are feasible for both the school and the teacher.

Duetto course (for two people)

Course structure:
The Duetto course is specifically designed for two people (friends, family, work colleagues) who are travelling together and have the same level of Italian.
Having lessons in very small groups gives you the advantage of being able to study more intensively and in a more personalised way, whether it be choosing specific themes that you would like to work on or being able to have a personalised timetable.
It is possible to decide how many hours you would like to have per week. Lessons normally take place in the morning but it is also possible to choose an afternoon time.

About the course:
During the lessons the teacher provides the linguistic skills necessary for communication, taking the particular interests of the students into account.
You study grammar to understand the structure of the language. Through readings, exercises and activities, you will be taught rules which will then promote correct communication in Italian during the conversation lessons.
We also focus on oral and written comprehension, vocabulary and communication in order that the students can improve their skills which are being closely monitored by the teacher who is with them every step of the way.

Lesson times:
Lesson times for the Duetto course are agreed with students even if they normally take place in the morning.
It is possible to decide how many lessons per week or per day you would like to have.

Italian phonetic courses

Course structure:
The course is for those who need to curate phonetics and their pronunciation of the Italian language for professional reasons.
Particularly opera singers as well as actors, journalists, leaders or people who need to speak in public can find real help for their needs in this course.
The phonetics course is either individual or in small groups of people who already know each other and have the same linguistic needs.
This course can be combined with other general Italian courses.

About the course:
After a short introduction of the articulatory system we will work on various aspects of pronunciation taking into account the needs of the students with exercises which target correct pronunciation of the vowels, consonants, syllables and phonetic distribution of sentences.
We work on the musicality of the language, intonation, rhythm, accent and the reinforcement of typical standard Italian phonetics as expressive elements of the voice such as the tone, volume and tempo.

We will correct typical foreign pronunciation errors and control articulation.

Course structure:
The historic centre of Florence was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1982. The Uffizi Gallery, the Accademia Gallery and the Pitti Palace are only some of the most famous sites and some of the most famous masterpieces in the world are enclosed in their walls.
Walking through the streets, the squares or over the bridges where Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Brunelleschi (to name a few) walked, you will breathe in Florence’s history and learn about its beauty.
Thinking about those who have decided to come to Italy to discover art, the ABC school in Florence organises Intensive History of Art courses which don’t necessarily have to be accompanied by Italian language lessons from the desire to show visitors our city.

The course includes 20 individual history of art lessons which take place partly in class and partly in monumental museums or churches.

About the course:
The student can, if they want, give an indication to a historic period to focus on or let the teacher guide them through the discovery of history and the legends which surround the protagonists of Florentine art such as the artists and patrons who have helped to make Florence to famous in the world.

The teachers who teach the Intensive history of art course are graduate in history of art and/or licensed tour guides.

The lessons take place in the morning with an activity program which will be decided with the student.

At the end of the lessons it is possible to participate in the cultural activity program which is available to all of the ABC school students, to be able to enrich their knowledge of the other Italian culture aspects.

Lesson times:
20 history of art individual lessons per week from 9 to 12:40 from Monday to Friday.
Individual lessons last 55 minutes.

Course duration
The Intensive history of art course has a minimum of one and a maximum of two weeks.
